Aerospace Engineering Degree to Data:

One thing about me is that I have always had a passion for aviation and that led me down the path of completing both my undergrad and master’s in aerospace engineering.

It wasn’t until my final semester of University that I really thought about what kind of job I would like to do when I completed my degree and after scouring the web and speaking to many people at job fairs, I was still very confused. That all changed when I spoke to my university advisor, and she asked me what aspects of my degree I enjoyed the most. It was the programming I had done for my dissertation and the numerous lab projects collecting and analysing data.

That was when I knew I wanted to work with data, but the next question was where?

I started applying to graduate schemes within the data industry and after weeks of rejections or even no responses from companies I came across Rockborne. One of the things that impressed me about Rockborne in the initial stages was the straightforward and quick application process. I was informed from the start what the application process would be like and most importantly how many stages there were and what they comprised of. This made the whole process much easier as I had gone through numerous other application processes for other companies which were 5 or 6 stages lasting for weeks at a time.

This included the fact I was at most times kept uninformed about the progress of my application had taken a hit on my motivation to apply for new roles. After speaking to Amy, she informed me about the graduate programme and what it entailed and was very helpful in answering any questions I had about both the programme and the application process. She was able to explain each step of the process and assured me I would be kept updated about my application. The whole process took around 2 weeks and every interaction I had with either Amy or one of the Partners reassured me that this was where I wanted to start my Career in data.

Now here I am after 12 weeks of training and nearly 4 months on the client site and enjoying every minute of it. The training helped me learn and develop the essential data and soft skills I needed for client sites which have since been put into practice during various projects. In the space of 4 months, I have already learned new software, hugely improved stakeholder management and even started managing my own project!
